Mental Jukebox: 2014 Year-End Countdown Conclusion (Pt 3 of 3)

Monday: #3 – Walk The Moon “Shut Up And Dance”

MJ Top 10 of 2014: Happy 1st Monday-after-Christmas everyone! This song will cheer you up. #3 on the countdown is “Shut Up and Dance” by Cincinnati, OH band Walk The Moon. (Yes, they took their name from a Police song.) Words cannot express how much I love this song. The melody and chorus are so infectious – it makes me happy whenever I hear it. From the album “Talking Is Hard” which came out on December 2.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JCLY0Rlx6Q

Tuesday: #2 – Vance Joy “Riptide”

MJ Top 10 of 2014: The end of 2014 is nigh! #2 goes to “Riptide” from Australian-born Vance Joy. Oh, this was SO hard!! Because the truth is that I have TWO #1 favorite songs of 2014, and this is one of them. I’ll spare you the details of my tiebreaking antics. This one took a little time to grow on me (the best ones usually do) but the song and album have been one of my most enduring musical loves of 2014. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJ_1HMAGb4k

Wednesday: #1 – Hozier “Take Me To Church”

MJ Top 10 of 2014: Welcome to the last day of 2014 (or Happy New Year already if you’re in Australia!) #1 just HAS to be “Take Me To Church” by Irish singer-songwriter Hozier. That incredible voice paired with songs that draw from a mix of influences including Celtic, R&B, roots and garage blues is a soulful, spiritual combination that cannot be denied. I made my choices before looking at any other year-end lists and was pleased to see that Hozier topped a number of those other year-end charts as well. SO looking forward to his show here in February!! Everyone have a safe and happy New Year’s Eve and Day!!  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Byeg1LMu5mM

Throwback Thursday: ABBA “Happy New Year” (1980/1999)

Meant to post this earlier but after this AM’s early activities, a nap was absolutely required! Throwing back a couple of decades for this timely classic from ABBA. Although originally released on their Super Trouper album in 1980, the song wasn’t released as a single until 1999, when it was used to promote the CD re-releases. I’m taking the rest of the week off – Mental Jukebox will return on Monday! Have a great weekend and here’s hoping that 2015 will be a very Happy New Year for all!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Uo0JAUWijM

Freebie Friday!!

Taking the day off! Happy New Year everyone!!
